SHONAN, an advanced system harmonizing human capabilities and information technology (IT), was introduced in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, which prompted the shift of office workers and school students to online platforms. In addition, a specific application of SHONAN, referred to as the narrow area communication system (NAMI), was previously implemented, exclusively sharing text-based information. Further, NAMI uses Bluetooth low energy (BLE) to exchange messages; however, it is difficult to exchange large data, and therefore, we have confirmed that it is possible to exchange large data using Wi-Fi. Thus far, all experimental systems have been designed on paper in advance. This is insufficient for actual dynamic systems. In this paper, we considered a method that can allow NAMI functions to continue to be used even when devices and edges move and the network configuration changes dynamically. Further, we implemented and confirmed the functions in the prototype.

We model unlearning by simulating a Q-agent (using the reinforcement learning Q-learning algorithm), representing a real-world learner, playing the game of Nim against different adversarial agents to learn the optimal Nim strategy. When the Q-agent plays against sub-optimal agents, its percentage of optimal moves is decreased, analogous to a person forgetting (“unlearning”) what they have learned previously. To mitigate the effect of this “unlearning”, we experimented with modulating the Q-learning so that minimal learning occurs with untrusted opponents. This trust-based modulation is modeled by observing opponent moves that are different from those that a Q-agent has learned. This model parallels human trust which tends to increase with those whom one agrees with. With this modulated learning, we observe that a Q-agent with a baseline optimal strategy is able to robustly retain previously learned strategy. We then ran a three-phase simulation where the Q-agent played against optimal agents in the first phase, sub-optimal agents in the second “unlearning” phase, and optimal or random agents in the third phase. We found that even after unlearning, the Q-agent was quickly able to relearn most of its knowledge about the optimal strategy for Nim.

Since their conception in the early 1970s, microprocessors have been put to a multitude of uses through various dif erent designs. While there are many academic papers on the implementation of a microprocessor, only a few are devoted to verification. Design and verification go hand in hand with every stage of a digital circuit implementation. In this paper, we propose a RISC pipelined processor with hazard detection, automatic hazard resolution, and automatic stall insertion. We incorporate a modular approach to design. We proposed a constrained random verification environment to fully verify the design with coverage based verification. Finally we implemented the processor in real hardware to demonstrate operational ability. Our approach could easily be scaled up to design, verification and implementation of a large scale system on chip manufacturing.

Dehydration is a common and serious condition that affects millions of people globally, despite increasing access to clean drinking water. Staying hydrated is one of the most important habits for maintaining overall health and energy levels but sadly, due to higher levels of business among people. It is often overlooked. This causes health issues like fatigueness, headaces and etc [1]. Dehydration is linked to various health issues, including heat-related illnesses, kidney diseases, and even death. Studies show that 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated, with elderly populations being at higher risk. Addressing this, our project proposes a solution to ensure optimal hydration: a smart water bottle, Smartflask, integrated with sensors and an application to monitor and encourage regular water consumption. The Smartflask app allows users to set daily hydration goals, and through its combination of a distance sensor placed at the bottle’s cap and real-time notifications, it tracks the user’s water intake and sends reminders when needed. This smart system ensures that users meet their hydration targets consistently. Several challenges were addressed during the development, including selecting a suitable microcontroller (Particle Boron), ensuring sensor accuracy, and designing a user-friendly interface. The results of our experiments show that the ToF distance sensor is accurate in measuring water levels and that the smart water bottles performance can be enhanced by optimizing power consumption and sensor integration. This project showcases the potential of smart technology to significantly improve hydration habits and overall health.

Attestation of documents like legal papers, professional qualifications, medical records, and commercial documents is crucial in global transactions, ensuring their authenticity, integrity, and trustworthiness. Companies expanding operations internationally need to submit attested financial statements and incorporation documents to foreign governments or business partners to prove their businesses and operations’ authenticity, legal validity, and regulatory compliance. Attestation also plays a critical role in education, overseas employment, and authentication of legal documents such as testaments and medical records. The traditional attestation process is plagued by several challenges, including time-consuming procedures, the circulation of counterfeit documents, and concerns over data privacy in the attested records. The COVID-19 pandemic brought into light another challenge: ensuring physical presence for attestation, which caused a significant delay in the attestation process. Traditional methods also lack real-time tracking capabilities for attesting entities and requesters. This paper aims to propose a new strategy using decentralized technologies such as blockchain and self-sovereign identity to overcome the identified hurdles and provide an efficient, secure, and user-friendly attestation ecosystem.

The loan data simulated with Monte Carlo approach and analyzed in the research work provides valuable insights into the borrowers’ financial positions and loan performance. By calculating the debt-to-income ratio (DTI), we identified 122 (50.8%) loans that were at high risk of default. We also used risk-based pricing (RBP) to assign higher interest rates to riskier loans, helping to mitigate the risk of default. The data analysis showed that a higher DTI is associated with a higher risk of default, and a higher RBP is associated with a higher interest rate. Therefore, it is essential to use these metrics when assessing loan applications to ensure a healthy loan portfolio. This analysis can be used to inform loan officers, risk analysts, and other stakeholders involved in the lending process.

This work presents a brain tumor classification survey utilizing Convolutional Neural Networks and Vision Transformers methods. The classification is based on a brain tumor dataset comprising 7023 MRI images with four classes present in the dataset: No tumor, Pituitary, Glioma, and Meningioma. The models used for the classification are ResNet101V2, VGG19, MobileNetV2, InceptionV3, Xception, and Vitb16. Two types of experiments were conducted with and without pre-trained weights to classify the dataset with intended models. Since the dataset is relatively small, CNN performs better than ViT since ViT relies on a vast pre-trained dataset to perform very well. The best results were obtained by Inceptionv3 and Xception architectures, both achieving an accuracy of around 98.6%.

A 2023 TomTom study identifies Lima as the most congested city in Latin America and the fifth worldwide, causing significant impacts such as increased stress, long travel times, and lower productivity. Various methods have been analysed and tested with promising results, but not all can meet the set of requirements for developing cities like Lima. To address this, the proposed system uses the Max Pressure (MP) algorithm for traffic signal control and a Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (Bi-LSTM) neural network for traffic prediction. The MP algorithm dynamically adjusts signal timing to optimize traffic flow, while the Bi-LSTM predicts future traffic patterns. Applied to a simulation of the Javier Prado Avenue, the system shows promising results. Both the traffic control algorithm and prediction model demonstrate effectiveness, and the developed web app presents a practical tool for easing traffic in Lima’s busiest areas.

The advent of 5G technologies has ushered in unprecedented demands for efficient spectrum utilization to accommodate a surge in data traffic and diverse communication services. In this context, accurate and reliable spectrum sensing is crucial. We investigated wideband spectrum sensing strategies by comparing non-cooperative cognitive radio (CR) approaches with cooperative methods across multiple sub-bands. Our research led to the development of a sophisticated cooperative wideband spectrum sensing framework that incorporates a K-out-of-N fusion rule at the fusion center to make optimal decisions, selecting an appropriate K for a given number of cooperating CRs. This method aims to combat the noise uncertainty typically affecting traditional non-cooperative energy detection methods in 5G environments under Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) conditions, assumed to be identically and independently distributed (i.i.d). However, our findings indicate that while cooperative sensing significantly improves detection in scenarios with poor signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) and higher false alarm rates (between 0.5 and 1), it does not consistently outperform non-cooperative methods at very low false alarm rates (0.01 and 0.1). This finding suggests the limited effectiveness of the cooperative sensing method under certain conditions, underscoring the need for further research to optimize these strategies for diverse operational environments

The development of a character’s design is a creative process that demands multiple iterations before a final result is reached, and a fundamental aspect of this process is the elaboration of a semantic panel. The technology of generative AI has diverse documented applications in the context of the entertainment industry, its usage in character creation included. However, one of the challenges in using this technology is the quality inconsistency of the generated images, the variability in its iterations and adherence to the prompt. In order to verify its uses, this study proposes the integration of generative AI tools into the elaboration of the semantic panel for the creation of character designs. The focus of this research was to establish a metric that evaluates if the images generated by AIs are adequate enough to be incorporated into the character design development pipeline.

Our approach involves a detailed fine-tuning process on mBART, leveraging a carefully curated parallel corpus encompassing a wide range of domains to ensure linguistic richness and contextual accuracy. The results demonstrate significant improvements in translation quality, as evidenced by enhanced BLEU scores and qualitative assessments. This study underscores the potential of tailored seq2seq models in bridging the translation gap between Arabic and English, paving the way for more reliable and contextually aware machine translation systems.

Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, commonly abbreviated as ADHD, is a neurological disorder commonly associated with restlessness, difficulty maintaining attention spans, and difficulties maintaining interpersonal relationships [1]. Screening for ADHD is difficult and costly, and a more accessible and affordable option for getting tested for ADHD is necessary. As such, we created the website named NeuroGaze, which offers a non-intensive way to get tested for ADHD [2]. It utilizes the user’s webcam to use eye-tracking software across multiple tests. Three tests are employed by the website. First, a visual attention go/no-go test will generate 10 images for a user and they must only interact if they spot a certain image. Second, a continuous inhibition CPT (continuous performance test) will display random characters on a screen and the user is tasked with interacting with all non-’X’ characters [4]. Lastly, an interference test will have the user read a passage with distractions intermittently appearing, focusing on eye-tracking movement results. A screening survey follows, and the test concludes with the results screen with a potential diagnosis. To test our website’s accuracy, we created an experiment involving 12 individuals, half of which had ADHD [3]. Testing showed that our website is 75% accurate in its diagnoses, which leaves a solid foundation to further iterate on in the future.

In the sprawling digital landscape of the 21st century, the resonance of music pervades the essence of every individual, emanating from earbuds, car speakers, and living room sound systems with the mere tap of a screen. Individual shave a variety ofmusic platforms to choose from when selecting where to enjoy their favorite songs[1]. Currently, there are various major music streaming platforms for users to select. One of them is Spotify, the largest music streaming platform, has more than 574 million users, 226 million subscribers in more than 180 markets (Spotify)[2].

This project explores the application of machine learning models to predict lithium carbonate levels in patients using physiological data, such as body temperature, diastolic blood pressure, oxygen saturation (BOS), and time since last dosage [1][2]. Several models, including Linear Regression, Random Forest, Support Vector Regressor, K-Nearest Neighbors, Gradient Boosting, Decision Tree, and a Neural Network, were implemented and evaluated. Performance was assessed using Mean Squared Error (MSE) and R² Score to determine model effectiveness. Linear Regression outperformed all other models, achieving the lowest MSE and the least negative R² score, suggesting that simpler models are more effective in this context. The Neural Network, while more complex, performed poorly, indicating a need for larger datasets and more feature diversity to enhance accuracy. The results demonstrate that simpler models can provide better predictive performance for medical applications, and highlight the need for further model tuning and data augmentation [3].

The problem I’m trying to solve is the trouble with Alzheimer’s patients in recalling memories. This program will be used as a memory aid to help users with remembering past events through past memory image display. The key technologies I used are Unity, ChatGPT, and DALLE. The application is shown in Unity in Virtual Reality, it sends the memory prompts the user typed in Unity to ChatGPT, then DALLE will generate a memory image that is then displayed in Unity [1]. The three important systems are the ChatGPT prompt, the DALLE generator, and the Unity client. The ChatGPT prompt uses prompt engineering concepts to generate a visual description of what to make, which is then fed into DALLE, which attempts to create an artistic interpretation of the user’s memory [2]. This is in turn fed back to the Unity client on the VR headset for display in an art gallery. Several design considerations and challenges were encountered and resolved along the way. The principal challenge was considerations for user experience. In the end we found that since this is a service used by caretakers and patients alike it was essential to make the program as simple to use as possible, which required some simplification of the UI and strengthening of the backend systems [3]. The experiment results indicate that this design decision was positive.

Microservices architecture (MSA) has gained significant popularity in recent years due to its many advantages. Many companies are now migrating their monolithic applications to this architecture. In an MSA, each service operates independently, typically with its own persistence layer, and interacts with both internal and external services. These services can also be part of an event-driven architecture, emitting and consuming events. However, as the number of services grows, it becomes increasingly difficult to trace the flow of requests across services for debugging purposes. While distributed tracing tools can provide a trace of service calls, they often fall short in tracking custom logs across multiple services. Traditional logging approaches are inefficient due to the complexity of interactions between services and the intricacies of event-driven systems. This paper proposes a framework that can be integrated into each service within an MSA to collect log data and build a comprehensive stack trace of calls across services. The framework ensures structured logging, correlates logs to events and services, and facilitates real-time system monitoring.
